Authorities arrested a man for reportedly assaulting and holding a female victim against her will at a home in Fredericksburg on Saturday.

Fredericksburg Police charged Calvin Whitaker, 23, of Spotsylvania County with felony strangulation and abduction and a misdemeanor charge of assault and battery.

A source tells ABC7's Jeff Goldberg that Whitaker was a correctional officer at Coffeewood Correctional Center in Mitchells, Va. The source also tells Goldberg that Whitaker was fired Saturday.

Police say Whitaker was known to the victim, who was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Officers were called to the 300 block of Wolfe Street at around 1:15 a.m. for a report of an assault. Police found the victim at the home.

Whitaker was arrested by a Culpeper County Sheriff’s Office Sergeant later that morning.

Police say Whitaker is currently being held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail.
