NEW CARROLLTON, Md. (WJLA) - Police in New Carrollton say they are looking for a man they believe attempted to sexually assault a 9-year old boy Sunday morning.
Police say the attempted sexual assault happened around 8:30 a.m. in the 8400 block of Annapolis Road, a very busy commercial area that sits just inside the Beltway.
Police didn't say exactly where the attack happened, but at some point the suspect was captured from behind by a security camera at a 7-11 on the corner of Annapolis Rd. and 85th Ave.
They say the man grabbed the boy and threw him on the ground. The boy resisted and was able to get away. He told family members, who then told police.
Police believe the suspect is in his 20s, about six feet tall, and has a close cropped beard. He was wearing red shorts and had some sort of yellow cartoon on the front of his black shirt.
Although the child was able to escape and police say he was not injured in the attack, the news was still very worrying to New Carrollton parents who spoke with ABC7.
"It's crazy, there's some sick people out here nowadays," said a mother who only gave us her first name of Andrea. "Once they catch him I'm going to feel a lot better."
"I think it's very, very disconcerting to see that a child can't walk down the street [without being] preyed upon by somebody," said parent Robert Gworlekaju.
Anyone who knows anything about the suspect is asked to call the Prince George's County police emergency communications center at (301) 352-1200, and then ask to speak with a New Carrollton police officer.
