A Prince George's County man has been arrested for allegedly throwing sulfuric acid on his female roommate’s face and upper body.

Bekre Abdela, 28, was arrested and charged Monday with attempted murder, assault and additional charges.

According to Prince George's County police, Abdela threw sulfuric acid at his female roommate, an adult female, during a roommate dispute on Feb. 24 at his address in the 1000 block of East-West Highway in the unincorporated portion of Hyattsville. When officers responded to a call about the dispute around 7:30 p.m., they found the victim suffering from apparent chemical burns.

Abdela fled the scene following the attack, police said, but was found and arrested two days later on Monday.

Police said Abdela admitted his involvement in the attack of the victim.

The victim was taken to a hospital, where she remains in critical condition, according to police.

A motive in the incident is still under investigation.

Anyone with information about the case should contact Prince George’s County police detectives at 301-699-2601.
