Police are investigating after the discovery of a teenager’s body Sunday afternoon in a wooded area.

Montgomery County police have identified the male body as 17-year-old Navid Nicholas Sepehri, of Bethesda. ABC7's Q McCray learned that Sepehri was a senior at Walt Whitman High School.

According to police, Sepehri’s body was discovered in the 6500 block of Laverock Lane in Bethesda by the Bannockburn Swim Club. A search was conducted to find him at approximately 12:45 p.m. Sunday when he was reported missing to police after he did not return home Saturday night.

Sepehri was last seen around 11:30 p.m. Saturday.

An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause and manner of Sepehri’s death, police said.

Walt Whitman's principal sent an email to students and parents Sunday night to express his sorrow over Sepehri's death.

Montgomery County police say the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call the Major Crimes Division at 240-773-5070.
