Police: 52-year-old Va. woman killed in 3-vehicle pileup on I-66
FAUQUIER COUNTY, Va. (ABC7) —
A 52-year-old woman was killed in a three-vehicle pileup on Interstate 66 on Wednesday, Virginia State Police reported.
According to police, the driver of a Ford F-350 was pulling a trailer when they blew a tire and pulled over onto the side of the interstate.
Officials say the driver of a Ford Focus was also pulled over when she attempted to get back onto the interstate by backing up -- and in doing so drifted into the interstate causing a box truck to hit the rear of her vehicle. Authorities don't know why the woman, who was identified as Judy Ravenscroft of Berryville, was pulled over but officials say when the box truck hit her it sent the Focus flying into a guardrail and the box truck overturned in the westbound lanes.
Authorities say Ravenscroft was taken to a hospital where she later died, while the driver of the box truck received minor injuries and the driver of the pickup was not injured.
Virginia State State Police say an investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
