Police: 3 dead in crash following high-speed chase in Md., alcohol believe to be involved

Three people are dead after a crash Saturday morning following a high-speed chase in Charles County that police believe involved alcohol, according to authorities.

Maryland State Police say that Sollan Belina, 28, of North Carolina was driving a black Honda Civic with Luis Daboin, 24, of Hughesville and Joseph Nystrom, 24, also of North Carolina at around 2:00 a.m. on Saturday. A State Trooper says they noticed the car driving driving on Route 925 in the area of Route 5.

Belina then ran a red light at the intersection of Route 5 and started diving south in the northbound lane, prompting the trooper to turn on her emergency lights and an try to pull over the car, police say.

Belina was speeding and drove about 300 yards on the wrong side of the road before swerving back over, officials say. The black car stopped and pulled over on the shoulder for a short time but then "accelerated hard" and continued to flee police. authorities say.

Police say the car drover over 100 miles an hour as it continued past Smallwood Drive.

According to authorities. Belina's car went past Billingsley Road, hit a a concrete median, flew through the air, went in front of a convenience store and crashed into a tree.

More troopers were called to the scene where they say Belina, Daboin and Nystrom were all pronounced dead.

Officials say they think Belina and Nystrom had come to visit Daboin.

Authorities are asking anyone with information on the crash to call police at 301-392-1200.
