2 men armed with AK-47s rob armored truck in Northwest DC

WASHINGTON (WJLA) - Two men armed with AK-47s robbed an armored truck driver in Northwest D.C. shortly before noon on Wednesday, police say.

The men took a bag from the driver of an armored car, which police later revealed was empty, then fled the scene in the 5400 block of Fifth Street NW in a car driven by a third suspect, police say. They drove away eastbound on Kennedy Street NW.

Police say the bag was recovered by officers arriving on the scene in the 300 block of Kennedy Street, NW.

The getaway car was described as a black Dodge Charger or Chrysler. The car has Maryland temporary tags (first two numbers 54), police say.

One suspect was described as about 6-foot-1 wearing a tan sweater and dark pants, armed with an AK-47. The other was described as 5-foot-8 to 5-foot-10 wearing a gray hoodie and black pants, also armed with an AK-47.
