PNC to extend early childhood education program

WASHINGTON (AP) - Elmo and Cookie Monster from "Sesame Street" will be in the nation's capital to help PNC announce an extension of its early childhood education program.

Funds from the PNC Grow Up Great program will support preschool math, science, arts and financial education. The program launched in 2004 as a 10-year, $100 million initiative, and PNC Financial Services Group Inc. plans to extend it for another 10 years.

The Pittsburgh-based bank will also give money to the YMCA of Metropolitan Washington for preschool financial education and to the National Air and Space Museum for science education for pre-kindergarten students in District of Columbia public schools.

In addition to Elmo and Cookie Monster, District of Columbia Mayor Vincent Gray will be on hand for the announcement Wednesday morning.
