Pepco crews prepare for the Blizzard of 2016
WASHINGTON (ABC7) —
Pepco crews are actively preparing for what is now being called the Blizzard of 2016.
The blizzard is expected to hit the area late Friday morning and last until late Saturday night.
The Stormwatch7 Weather Team is predicting heavy, wet snow with high winds starting Friday. Pepco crews say these conditions can jeopardize power lines.
"Our crews are prepared for this weather event and will work safely and diligently if there are any interruptions in power because of this storm," said Donna Cooper, President of Pepco.
Pepco says they are monitoring the weather forecasts and will have crews ready to restore potential outages. There are about 150 internal linemen, 250 contractors and more than 200 tree crews available to respond, according to a release sent out.
