A jewelry store inside the Fashion Centre at Pentagon City was robbed Monday morning.
It happened shortly after the Zales jewelry store opened for the day. Arlington County police say four men wearing hoodies went into the store between 11:15 and 11:45 a.m., smashed several jewelry cases with hammers and got away with nearly $130,000 worth of jewelry.
Shopper Hinton Combs said, "It's wild, like, someone just ran up inside Zales and stole 27 rings. That's wild, dog."
Officers arrived within minutes of the heist, but by then, the thieves were probably long gone.
"They chose that location probably because of the easy access to the exterior of the building, where a car was waiting and they could flee the scene," Police spokesman Dustin Sternbeck said.
There is no word as to a suspect description or lookout.
Zales is located on the third level of the mall, near Nordstrom. The storm remained closed for the rest of the day as investigators looked for clues.
"The suburban shopping centers are getting like anywhere else, a little dangerous," added shopper Mike Gilchrest.
A scary and brazen crime that was not only conducted during the day, but with plenty of security camera capturing their actions. Surveillance video shows the four men walking into the store and smashing the jewelry counter.
