Paula Jane Shipley indicted for second degree murder of daughter

      Maryland State Police investigators from the Homicide Unit, along with the Carroll County Sheriff's Office, arrested a Carroll County mother today for the death of her child after a grand jury indictment.

      She has been identified as 46-year-old Paula Jane Shipley of Hampstead, and she was indicted for second degree murder, first degree child abuse leading to death, manslaughter, neglect of a minor and reckless endangerment.

      The victim is 4-year-old Cassandra Jane Shipley, 4, who was living with her parents at the time of the incident. Autopsy results revealed that Cassandra died of a lethal dose of narcotic drugs. Over the counter medications were also found in her system.

      At 9:40 a.m. on Friday morning, Paula Shipley was arrested in Hampstead. She is currently being held at the Carroll County Detention Center and awaiting a bond hearing.
