Park Police Officer, civilian injured in D.C.-Va. police chase; two suspects caught, one flees

The suspects' car crashed into this Exxon station in Crystal City Friday night.

A police chase ended in a crash in the heart of Crystal City Friday night, injuring a U.S. Park Police officer and a person who was hit by the chase suspects.

Two suspects were caught after a brief chase on foot, police say, but one got away.

The crash forced officers to shut down Rt. 1 in both directions at the scene near 23rd Street and Jefferson Davis Highway, causing major traffic problems.

Park Police say they attempted a traffic stop in D.C. Thursday, but the vehicle got away when it reached the 14th St Bridge and police gave up the chase.

At about 8 p.m. Friday, police spotted the same gray car again and attempted to stop it, but the suspects fled again. This time police continued to chase the car as it entered Virginia, going down Rt. 1 toward Crystal City.

The car hit one car on the side of the road and then hit a Jeep that was turning at 23rd and Rt, 1. The impact of that crash spun the Jeep and the gray car with the suspects plowed into an Exxon station.

Police recovered one gun, which could be seen in the Exxon parking lot. Police don’t know if the suspect who escaped is armed or not.
