The parents of a young boy who was found wandering the streets in Prince George's County Sunday have been found, but the boy remains in the custody of authorities.

Police said the boy's parents called them around 7 a.m. on Monday when they saw their missing son on the morning news. Parents and other family members apparently misunderstood each other as to who was watching over the boy, police said.

Police found the 4-year-old at about 2:20 p.m. Sunday when he was walking in the 2300 block of Vermont Avenue in Landover, Md., according to a release from Prince George's County Police.

Police canvassed the neighborhood for his parents, but did not locate them. The boy was turned over to Child Protective Services.

When the parents were located on Monday morning, police didn't immediately release the boy to them. He remains in the custody of Child Protective Services, which is investigating. At this time, police will not be filing charges.
