(WJLA) - A District Heights man has been arrested in connection with the Saturday shooting death of a 32-year-old man.

Prince George's County Police officials say that Omar Anthony Smith has been charged with first-degree murder and stands accused of shooting 32-year-old Lyndell Lorenzo Sowells to death.

The shooting, which police believe was drug related, happened just after 9:30 p.m. Saturday in the 7000 block of Marbury Court in District Heights.

Responding officers found Sowells suffering from a gunshot wound, and before he died, he was able to provide detectives with a description of the suspect. Officers later found Smith running on top of a fence near where the shooting happened.

Upon being apprehended, officials say Smith admitted to shooting Sowells. A handgun was found nearby.
