Officials, lawmakers rally for federal funds to continue Purple Line project

Lawmakers were joined by city and county officials, as well as local residents, in Silver Spring to rally for support to continue building the Purple Line.

The light rail would run from Bethesda to New Carrolton, connecting Prince George's and Montgomery counties.

Officials were asking for $900 million in federal funds to push forward with the rail, but a federal judge had halted the funds about five months previous on grounds that the project had not adequately taken into account falling ridership levels on Metro. On Monday, the Congressional Budget set aside money for the Purple Line and officials were asking that the federal judge release the money.

ABC7's Q McCray was live at the rally.
