Three people were taken to area hospitals after a townhouse went up in flames in Burke, Virginia Monday morning, authorities said.

Two helicopters arrived on the scene and air-lifted the victims to area hospitals. The extent of their injuries are unknown at this time.

According to Fairfax County Fire, the fire started around 7 a.m. at 10709 Spring Oak Court and it took about three and a half minutes for crews to respond.

Fire officials say there were "heavy fire conditions" upon their arrival and around 60 firefighters responded.

Neighbors in the area tell ABC7's John Gonzalez that the fire started with a loud pop but it's unclear at this time what started the fire. Officials say an investigation remains ongoing.

This is a developing story.
