GAITHERSBURG, Md. (WJLA) - One local restaurant has closed its doors for good after 90 years.
Food was served, drinks were poured and laughter was shared. Patrons gathered at O’Donnell’s Sea Grill in Gaithersburg for one last hurrah before the restaurant closed its doors for good Saturday night.
The restaurant opened 90 years ago in Washington. Owner Bill Edelblut is the third generation to run the institution. He started working at O’Donnell’s when he was just 14.
“It’s kind of been an emotional roller coaster for the last week,” he says. “The passion’s kind of gone after 40 years.”
Each guest enjoyed one last taste of their favorite dish. It wasn’t the crab cakes that patrons said they would miss the most, but the years of friendships and memories built at O’Donnell’s.
Edelblut says he is looking forward to spending time with his family, but it will be hard to convince his regulars that there are plenty of fish in the sea.
