NRA to DOJ Women's March expected to draw huge crowds, create traffic issues in D.C. area

Women's March protesters starting to arrive for 18 mile rally. They will walk from NRA all the way to DOJ in downtown D.C. Friday, July 14, 2017 (John Gonzalez/ABC7)

Protesters are marching 18 miles Friday from the headquarters of the National Rifle Association (NRA) all the way to the Department of Justice in Washington, D.C.

The NRA to DOJ Women's March is a massive rally that actually started outside the Beltway and finishes in downtown D.C. Thousands of people are expected to participate, and it could potentially create major traffic backups in Virginia and the district.

An ABC7 News crew drove down the route and caution tape and cones were already set up.

The group arranging this NRA march is the same one that organized the Women's March the day after the Presidential Inauguration. We all remember how many people showed up there over a 100,000 people.

This time the group is protesting the NRA's response to the Philando Castile trial verdict. Castille was shot to death by Minnesota police officer Jeronimo Yanez during a traffic stop. Castille, who had a permit to carry a gun, informed Yanez that he had it before he was shot five times. Yanez was later acquitted in the case.

Castile's girlfriend streamed the incident on Facebook Live. The couple's 4-year-old daughter was in the backseat of their car when the shooting happened.

Friday's march is expected to take six hours, according to ABC7 News' John Gonzalez.
