New York Avenue blocked after building fire

New York Avenue has completely reopened after a structure fire completely closed a portion of the busy road during the morning rush hour, D.C. Police say.

D.C. Fire says the bulk of the fire in a building at New York and Montana avenues Northeast was knocked down quickly after getting the call at about 7:20 a.m.

However, the response blocked the major thoroughfare during the morning commute.

Lanes in both directions began to incrementally reopen, and the full road was cleared just before 9 a.m.

D.C. Police say that traffic had been diverted onto West Virginia Avenue in the area.
