New study finds Northern Virginia drivers may have worst commute in D.C. area
ARLINGTON, Va. (ABC7) —
It's no secret that we spend a lot of time in our cars in this area, but a new study found that Northern Virginia drivers may be getting the worst of it.
The Virginia Secretary of Transportation's office says the average daily commute is under 10 miles ... Sounds pretty good, right?
Turns out, it typically takes more than 30 minutes to go that distance.
On interstates, the average rush hour driver has to allot 51 minutes for what's usually a half-hour trip.
The study says nearly one in five Northern Virginia roadways are considered "congested."
Contrast that with a commute in rural Harrisonburg, where the average commute is 11 miles. The average drive time? Just 10 minutes!
