GAINESVILLE, Va. (AP) - A new commuter parking lot is opening in northern Virginia.
WTOP Radio reports the new lot opens Monday in Gainesville. It will offer 433 parking spaces, as well as access to Interstate 66 and bus service to the West Falls Church Metro station.
Virginia transportation officials say they hope the lot will encourage more commuters to leave their cars behind to take buses or Metro. The lot cost $6 million to build.
The lot is located just off Balls Ford Road and Cushing Road near the Prince William Parkway. Access to I-66 eastbound is open from 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. but is limited to buses and vehicles with two or more people due to HOV restrictions.
