Monday night's game between the Washington Nationals and the Atlanta Braves has been postponed in the aftermath of the shooting at the Washington Navy Yard.
Nationals Park is situated about three blocks west of the Washington Navy Yard, where 12 people were shot and killed Monday morning.
"The safety of our fans is our utmost priority. As we have throughout the day, the Nationals security personnel will continue to work closely with all levels of law enforcement to reinforce the already high level of security in place at Nationals Park," the Nationals said in a statement.
The area around the Navy Yard remains locked down in several places. One of the stadium's parking lots is being used as a staging ground for families of Navy Yard employees to reunite.
Thousands of fans who attend Nationals games also use the nearby Navy Yard Metro station to get to and from the stadium.
Monday's game will be made up Tuesday as part of a day/night doubleheader. Games will be played at 1 p.m. at 7 p.m.
