(WJLA) - The National Zoo's newly named tiger cubs successfully completed their swim tests Wednesday afternoon. Bandar (the male) and Sukacita (the female) will now be allowed into their habitat enclosure.
Both Sumatran cubs were able to keep their heads above water and make their way onto dry land during the test. The test was especially important for the 13-week-old cubs after a Sumatran tiger cub at the London Zoo drowned in a pool in its outdoor enclosure in mid-October.
The tiger cubs won't make their public debut until Nov. 18, but the pair is visible on the zoo's TigerCubCam.
