(WJLA) - The National Cherry Blossom Festival kicks off in D.C. Thursday. The annual event will run for the next five weeks.
Currently, the cherry blossom trees are in the "green phase", which means only the buds are starting to appear. This is the latest that those buds have formed in ten years. They're expected to bloom over the next two and a half weeks.
The National Cherry Blossom Festival draws thousands of tourists to D.C. from around the world.
