(AP/ABC7) - There is a lot going on today at Mount Vernon as the estate celebrates America's first commander-in-chief, George Washington.

First, there will be a display of made-for-daytime fireworks during its annual Independence Day event.

The salute also includes a naturalization ceremony for 100 new citizens. People from 46 countries took the oath of allegiance. It's one of dozens of ceremonies nationwide in which 8,000 people will become American citizens.

Military reenactments, a special wreath-laying ceremony, free birthday cake, and a visit from the "first" first couple, "General and Mrs. Washington" will also be highlights of today's celebrations.
