A woman was sexually assaulted near Tenleytown late Tuesday.
Police say the woman was walking in the 4200 block of Wisconsin Avenue NW around 11:45 p.m. when a man approached her from behind, forced her behind a building and sexually assaulted her.
The suspect is described as a tall Hispanic man in his thirties. He has a muscular build and tattoos on both arms. He was last seen wearing a black shirt with writing on the back, possibly in Spanish.
Women who work in the area expressed concern after hearing about the assault.
“Sometimes I work late and wait for the bus and I would never think that something like that would happen here in this area,” says Heather Broberg. “This is heavy foot traffic here all the time. There are shops, stores, restaurants, that is a shock to me right now and something I need to tell my colleagues and friends in the area about."
But not all women were afraid.
“I feel sorry for her but I feel really safe here,” said Iraima Alonso, who lives in the area. “I have never had a problem.”
