4-year-old boy fatally struck in Alexandria

A 4-year-old boy has died after being struck by a Jeep Commander SUV in Alexandria.

Emergency crews were called to the accident scene in the 6300 block of Stevenson Avenue at 11:05 a.m. Saturday.

Police say an 84-year-old man was driving his 2010 Jeep Commander eastbound when the boy ran into the street. The child's mother was trying to carry another child when the 4-year-old ran into the street ahead of her.

The mother was also injured and is listed in stable condition.

The driver remained at the scene.
