Montgomery County traffic signals out of sync

Last night's storm knocked about 200 traffic signals in Montgomery County out of sync, which will likely slow traffic Wednesday morning.

The faulty signals are in Rockville, Gaithersburg, Germantown, Damascus and the Derwood areas, and may result in traffic backups and delays.

The signals are cycling through red, yellow and green, but are not coordinated with each other to allow more travel time for the busier flow of traffic.

According to the Associated Press, Emil Wolanin, chief traffic engineer with the Montgomery County Department of Transportation, says the county hopes to have the problem fixed by noon.

Motorists are urged to use public transportation or to take{ }alternate routes.
