The scene at Herbert Hoover Middle School in Potomac, Md. resonates with rage.
Shattered glass litters hallways from dozens of smashed windows. Spray paint stains walls and chalkboards with hateful language and sexual images.
Police say the Herbert Hoover Middle School was vandalized sometime between 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday and 9:45 a.m on Thursday. And it's being investigated as a hate crime.
“What kind of pleasure would someone get by walking into a school and breaking all the windows,” said Ruth Heltzer, who has lived across from the school for 30 years.
Montgomery County Police responded to a call and went to the school where they discovered extensive vandalism to the walls, doors, windows and furniture.
The vandalism depicted sexual images, genitalia, and hate language, police say.
A $1,000 reward is offered for information.
And there’s another concern. Police said that earlier in the week, at least 20 cars were vandalized in similar fashion in the Spencerville area.
Investigators wonder if the same person who vandalized the vehicles also hit the middle school.
