A 9th grader at a Silver Spring high school was shocked with a stun gun Thursday morning after she refused to return to her class and went after a school officer, officials say.
The 16-year-old girl was standing in the hallway at Montgomery Blair High School in Silver Spring at about 11:40 a.m. when a school resource officer asked her to go back to class. Montgomery County Police spokeswoman Angela Cruz says that the student then assaulted the SRO.
Authorities say that several school officials tried to restrain the combative teen to no avail before the shock device was used.
That's when the officer, a 5-year veteran with Montgomery County Police, deployed the shock device. Both the student and officer were not seriously injured.
Cruz says the teenage girl was taken to an area hospital for evaluation.
She was charged with second degree assault and disruption of a school.
