RICHMOND, Va. (AP/ABC7) - Mitt Romney has canceled his appearance at a campaign rally in Virginia's capital Friday, opting to visit storm-damaged areas of Louisiana instead, campaign officials say.
The Republican ticket of Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan were set to lend their star power to a Republican event kicking off Labor Day weekend in a brief fly-in stop at a hangar at Richmond's airport.
Instead, vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan will be the sole representative of the ticket on Friday, the day after Romney officially accepted his party's nomination for the presidency.
The 2 p.m. rally with the rest of the Republican slate on this fall's Virginia ballot, including Senate candidate George Allen will be at Martinair's general aviation hangar at Richmond International Airport.
The event comes just two days after President Barack Obama ended a three-city swing-state tour of college campuses at Charlottesville on Wednesday.
