Little 9-year-old Janet Bioj is back home, safe with her family and her mother is breathing a big sigh of relief.
Everyday, Janet comes home from Scotchtown Elementary in Laurel with her 10-year-old sister. But on Tuesday, instead of coming in the house, Janet says she decided to stay out.
The family says the little girl spent the evening playing with friends in a park a half block from her house and just behind the school.
Police say that at about 10 p.m. Tuesday, she decided to go back to the school. There, she found an open door.
Police put a helicopter in the air and conducted a search of the neighborhood Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.
And then later Tuesday morning, Janet's sister returned to the school to attend classes for the day and found Janet in the cafeteria.
“We are happy to have her back,” says Beth Moune, the girl’s mother. “I was very, very scared.”
