Minnieland Academy employees arrested, charged with cruelty to children
WOODBRIDGE, Va. (WJLA) - Two former Minnieland Academy employees were arrested last Friday on charges that they assaulted and caused injury to children under their care at a Woodbridge child care facility.
Kierra Nicole Spriggs, 24, and Sarah A. Jordan, 29, were both charged with two counts of cruelty or injury to a child and two counts of assault and battery in connection with the alleged repeated physical and verbal abuse of children.
Both Spriggs and Jordan were employees at Minnieland Academy At The Glen in Woodbridge, where state records indicate they were fired after a pattern of systemic mistreatment of children at the Prince WIlliam Parkway daycare.
Virginia Department of Social Services inspection records indicate that the two staff members, identified only as Staff A and B, picked up children and dropped them onto cots, sprayed toddlers with water hoses and forced them to eat spicy food.
Additional charges against both Spriggs and Jordan are pending, Prince William County Police officials say. Spriggs is out of jail on $1,500 bond, while Jordan's bond conditions were not provided.
An investigation into the records of other MInnieland Academy locations throughout Virginia revealed that several other staff members have been fired for similar actions since the beginning of 2012.
