Residents and police are walking parts of the Metropolitan Branch Trail Monday evening to find ways to make it safer to bike and jog on.

It comes almost a week after a cyclist was severely beaten as he biked home from work Tuesday. Around the same time last year, at least five people were robbed in separate incidents on the trail, some at gunpoint.

The trail runs from Union Station to Silver Spring and is a popular commuting route for cyclists.

On Friday, a group called the Guardian Angels took to the trail to hand out pamphlets urging trail users to be on alert.
