(WJLA) - A tough morning for Metro got worse Wednesday when a rail on the Orange line cracked, according to officials.
The cracked rail forced single tracking between the East Falls Church and Ballston stations. The Washington Post's Dana Hedgpeth reports that the cold weather likely contributed to the crack.
Full service was restored at about 12:30 p.m.
The cracked rail came on the heels of major delays on the Red line during the morning rush hour. A low-hanging communications cable caused trains to single track through the Woodley Park station.
Those delays stretched for more than 30 minutes for thousands of commuters.
