A man was arrested for shooting his ex-girlfriend on Christmas Day in Odenton after she got in a fight with his new girlfriend and stabbed her in the back, according to authorities.

Anne Arundel County Police say they were called to the 300 block of Eagle Landing Court at around 4:53 p.m. Officers say that 17-year-old Rhyen Gaulden of Odenton started fighting the current girlfriend of 20-year-old John Lopez of Bowie, her ex-boyfriend.

Gaulden then stabbed the girlfriend in the back which led to Lopez pulling out a gun and shooting Gaulden in the leg, officials say.

Lopez and his girlfriend fled and then went to Laurel Regional Hospital were she was treated for a non-life threatening injury. Gaulden was taken to Shock Trauma and had her leg treated before being released.

Gaulden and Lopez have both been arrested and charged with attempted murder and first and second degree assault, authorities say. Both are facing various other charges, including firearm related charges for Lopez. Police say Gaulden will be charged as an adult.
