Mayor's proposed budget calls for extending bar hours in D.C.
D.C. Council will be considering extending bar hours, bringing the city's nightlife a lot closer to that of New York City.
The idea is part of the mayor's 2013 budget plan. The estimated extra revenue could top $5 million and would help close the city's spending gap.
And some feel the bars and restaurants might benefit too, by staying open to 3 a.m. on weeknights and 4 a.m. on weekends.
But critics say the late hours would bring too many negatives: Noise, congestion, and drunk drivers. Especially since Metro closes at 3 a.m. on weekends.
