Matt Hill, a D.C.-area campus outreach minister who had been missing since Tuesday, has been found in Asheville, safe and unharmed.

Friends from Hill's church, and his family, here from Charlotte, North Carolina, had helped with the search.

"We confirm Matt has been found and is alive and unharmed," according to a post on the Facebook page dedicated to Hill. "He also left on his own will. We don't have any answers. We praise God he is alive, but ask you continue to pray."

Lt. Ralph Neal of the D.C. Police told the Charlotte Observer that his department got a lead that Hill, 26, had been found in Asheville, unharmed.

He said the case is now closed as a police matter.

"He apparently didn't let anyone know where he was at," Neal told the Observer. "We asked the police in Asheville to make contact with him there.

"He just left on his own -- for personal reasons. I guess he just wanted to get away."

Police in Asheville contacted Hill about 4 a.m. Sunday, Neal said.

The Observer reports that Hill graduated from Elon University in 2008 where he studied communications and played on the Elon baseball team.

A spokesperson for the family confirmed Sunday morning to ABC7 that Hill has been found.

Hill went missing Tuesday morning after he dropped off his friend Matthew Degioia, in Chinatown.

His black Honda Civic was later seen parked outside his 26th Street apartment. And records show it was ticketed by police.

{}Hill's family said earlier that one of his credit cards was used Tuesday, at an Arlington Exxon station, in an area he never frequented.
