Andre Mayo charged with killing fellow patient at Jessup hospital

(AP, ABC7) - A man who was a state hospital patient has been charged with killing a fellow patient Thursday, police said.

Andre Mayo, 46, is charged with first and second degree murder.

The deceased was identified as Rogelio Mondragon, 40. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Both men were patients at the Clifton T. Perkins Hospital in Jessup. Md.

Shortly before 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Maryland State police responded to the hospital after staff found Mondragon.

Troopers saw evidence on the man's hands and face that indicated he may have been in a fight.

Hospital staff found the man lying on the floor about 6:30 p.m. Emergency care was given but the man was unable to be resuscitated.

While staff were moving patients off the floor for the investigation, Mayo approached a security staff member and gave information about the assault on Mondragon.

Video surveillance showed Mayo entering{ }Mondragon's room twice within a half hour.{ }Mondragon was alone in the room both times he was seen entering.

A motive has not yet been established. Investigations are continuing.

Earlier this year a 24-year-old patient was charged in the death of his roommate. That slaying came 13 months after another male patient was charged with killing a female patient.
