      Maryland Pepco rate increase approved

The Maryland Public Service Commission approved a Pepco rate increase on Friday.

The increase is less than what Pepco was asking for. The utility regulator approved enough so Pepco could raise $18.1 million in additional revenue.

The Washington Post reports this would mean Maryland Pepco customers, on average, would see a $2 increase as opposed to the $5.50 Pepco wanted.

The increase comes on the heels of the June 29 derecho storm that knocked power out to more than a million customers in the D.C. area. Those who were affected include Pepco customers as well as Dominion, BGE and other customers.

In some cases, it took Pepco and other companies more than a week to restore power.
