Maryland couple adopts 35-pound cat named Symba
Since the Humane Rescue Alliance posted a video on YouTube on Thursday, it has been viewed more than 10,000 times. It shows a six-year-old, 35-pound cat trying to burn calories.
The cat was sent to the shelter after his owner moved to a retirement home.
His name is Symba, which is a fitting a name considering his size.
“Have you ever seen a cat this big?" asked ABC7 News' Anna-Lysa Gayle.
"No, never," responded Kiah Berkeley. "I just saw it and decided that we were going to get him.”
Berkeley and her fiancé Peter Sorkin are now Symba's proud new parents. They already have two other cats, but they decided to expand their family.
The couple plans to help Symba on his weight loss journey.
“The first order of business is to get him to a vet, because they have been feeding him some weight maintenance weight food," said Berkeley. "And as for the exercise regimen, we’re going to need some advice about that.”
With all his new followers on social media, they plan to share updates periodically.
“I might just start a Facebook page for him and just post pictures once in a while, so people can see what kind of exercises he’s doing…and how his weight loss is going," said Berkeley.
