Maryland Correctional Institution-Hagerstown inmate slaying reported

(AP/ABC7) - Maryland's prison agency says state police are investigating the apparent slaying of a 22-year-old inmate at a state prison near Hagerstown.

The Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services said Wednesday that the male inmate was found wounded Tuesday night at the medium-security Maryland Correctional Institution-Hagerstown.

Spokesman Mark Vernarelli says the inmate received care at the prison before he was taken to the Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown.

The inmate was serving a 4-year sentence for first degree burglary.
