"Influenza-like illnesses are at the highest reported intensity with documented influenza cases widespread throughout our area and the rest of Maryland. Getting your flu vaccine is the best way to prevent getting the flu and possible complications from flu," a FCHD spokesperson stated in a press release.

Health officials say children younger than 5 years of age are among those most susceptible to experiencing complications from influenza.
