MARC train hits SUV near Baltimore, killing two

BALTIMORE (AP) - Two people have died after the SUV they were riding in was hit by a MARC commuter train in Baltimore.

A spokesman with the Maryland Transit Administration says initial reports are that a vehicle "went around" a gate at a railroad crossing Tuesday around 6:20 a.m. and was struck by a train headed to Washington's Union Station.

The transit agency says trains on the line experience delays ranging from 35 to 40 minutes but that ridership was light because the federal government and many other offices are closed because of winter weather. No one on the train was injured.

Baltimore City Police say one of the dead was a 23-year-old woman and the other was a 38-year-old man. Their names were not released.
