A 39-year-old Northeast Washington man has been arrested nearly 2 1/2 years after he allegedly killed a District of Columbia firefighter and father of three.

MPD officials say that Melvin Lamond Linkins was arrested Thursday morning and charged with Murder II in connection to the death of 37-year-old Mark Dancy, who was found beaten and killed near 7th and Hamiln streets Northeast on Jan. 23, 2011.

Dancy, a husband and father to two teenage sons and a young daughter, was murdered during a fight, police determined, but for moe than two years had no one in custody in connection with his death.

He was a five-year veteran of D.C. Fire & EMS and was based out of Engine 10 in Trinidad. He lived with his family in Clinton but grew up in the District.
