Man, woman killed in Gaithersburg murder-suicide

(WJLA) - Montgomery County police are investigating a domestic-related homicide and suicide that claimed the life of a man and a woman in Gaithersburg on Sunday.

Monday morning, police identified the victims as 38-year-old David Lee Reid Jr. and 39-year-old Michelle Rena Reid, both of Gaithersburg.

Officers were patrolling in the vicinity of Girard Street and Allied Place at approximately 11:20 p.m. when they heard gunshots nearby. The officers entered a parking garage in the 500 block of Raven Avenue where they found David Lee Reid Jr. suffering from apparent gunshot wounds, according to police.

While EMS worked on the man, police then discovered Michelle Rena Reid hiding between cars holding a handgun. The 39-year-old woman shot herself and was transported to a local hospital where she later died.

The man, 38, also succumbed to his injuries at the hospital and died.

Detectives with Montgomery County police said a preliminary investigation indicates the woman shot the man before shooting herself.

"We believe they were married," Capt. Paul Starks. "We believe they may have been separated, and investigators believe this was some sort of domestic violence-related event."

ABC7 spoke with neighbors of the couple, who say they had a reputation in the apartment community for arguing frequently, and David was said to often play his music too loudly.

One neighbor, Jay Powell, say that troublesome behavior turned deadly last night, though.

"I had seen a couple arguing, and a couple minutes later we heard gunshots," Powell recalls.

Powell said he had a long, sleepness night after witnessing Michelle Reid take her own life.

"Well, for it to happen anywhere is sad - for it to happen right outside my door is unexpected," he said. "When [I saw] them arguing I wasn't thinking anything of it. It's two grown folks having an argument. I never expected for that to happen."

Anyone with information relating to this event or the two victims to call the Major Crimes Division at 240-773-5070. Callers may remain anonymous.
