BALTIMORE (AP) - The U.S. Marshals Service says the federal courthouse in downtown Baltimore was evacuated and several blocks of downtown were blocked off until a man with a gun was taken into custody outside the building.
Officials say the man was spotted Thursday morning outside the U.S. District Courthouse, holding a gun to his head. The man demanded to speak to the FBI. Once he spoke to an FBI representative by phone, he surrendered to U.S. marshals.
The marshals service says the gun turned out to be a pellet gun.
As a precaution, the marshals service says the courthouse was evacuated and the man's bags were cleared for any potential explosives. The building re-opened shortly after 1 p.m.
The marshals service declined to identify the man.
