Man struck, killed by Metro Blue Line train in Alexandria
ALEXANDRIA, Va. (NewsChannel 8) -- A man was struck and killed early Saturday by an empty Metro train in Alexandria near the end of the Blue Line.
It happened around 3:30 a.m. along the tracks between the Franconia-Springfield station and the Van Dorn station. The train involved was carrying no passengers at the time of the incident.
Authorities said it was unclear why the man was apparently walking along the tracks between the two stations; Metro officials said he was trespassing.
The accident scene was cleared overnight during the time that Metro doesn't operate scheduled service. There was no impact to Saturday's day operations of the Blue or other lines.
