A man was shot at around 4:09 p.m. Friday in the parking lot of the Brookland–CUA Metro station in Northeast D.C., police say.

According to a Metro spokesman, the victim suffered a "graze wound" to his left ear. Paramedics took him to a hospital conscious and breathing. While his injury is considered minor, had the bullet swayed just an inch or two, the situation could have certainly become dire.

The victim is a man in his twenties, and Metro Transit Police are calling him "non-cooperative." Officials say he won't provide his name or give information about what happened before or after the shooting. That, in part, has led police to believe the shooting was not random.

By 5 p.m., officers had used yards of yellow police tape to rope off the majority of the Kiss & Ride parking lot located on the east side of the busy Red Line station. Metro says rail and bus service, however, was not impacted.

While on scene, ABC7 obtained video of a silver compact car with a shattered front driver side window. The same vehicle also had an apparent bullet hole in its front passenger side door. It's involvement in the shooting was not immediately known.

A Metropolitan Police Department firearms-sniffing K9 was also seen searching for any weapons stashed in parked cars or tossed onto the ground. The search came after unconfirmed reports that another weapon might still be on property.

A Metro spokesman stated there were at least two witnesses to the midday shooting. It is not known, however, what those individuals exactly heard or saw.

As of 6 p.m., police were still searching for the lone suspect in the shooting, described as a black male with medium complexion, wearing a "white color shirt", black baseball cap and armed with a gun. The suspect was also reportedly seen fleeing the area in a silver-colored vehicle, possibly a Honda Accord or Toyota Camry.
