The District of Maryland U.S. Attorney's office unsealed the guilty plea of a Prince George's County developer accused of extortion and offering bribes, among other charges, to government officials.
Daniel Colton, 61, of Annapolis, Md. and Raliegh, N.C., pleaded guilty on Sept. 13, 2010, to conspiracy to commit extortion and to make false statements to the Federal Election Commission.
Colton was a prominent developer who, along with others, had an ownership stake in Greenbelt Metropark, which sought to develop a mixed-use project near the Greenbelt Metro Station.
According to his plea, Colton offered bribes to state and local officials from 1997 to 2008 in exchange for favorable business dealings.
